The LePop Gallery will be embracing the spring season with some cross-cultural pollination. Xuan Alyfe is a young street artist making his first visit to the U.S. from his native Spain to be something of an “artist in residence” at the gallery for the month of April. Xuan’s murals and installations on the streets of Spain evoke Miro and Kandinsky – if Kandinsky had grown up listening to punk. His work is playful yet strongly geometric, primitive and at the same time unexpectedly whimsical.
After his arrival at the beginning of April he plans to work in and out of the gallery creating new pieces exclusively for LePop. We’re fortunate to have vast windows that will allow all passers-by on Huron St. and with enough luck, observe Xuan in his element; a sort of “art aquarium”. Twitter and facebook will announce when he will be creating on-site. The gallery will open to the public on April 20th with an opening reception from 8 p.m. until midnight. In typical Charlie LaCroix style, great music and top notch refreshments sponsored by Arbor Brewing Company will be on hand. Those who can’t make it out for opening night will still have a chance to catch Xuan’s esoteric, arcane, spiritual and cosmological cultural offerings. The show will run April 20-May 13, with normal gallery hours Monday-Wendesday 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Thursday-Saturday noon until 9 p.m.
As a final treat, keep an eye out around Ann Arbor for some special locations which will play host to Xuan’s pieces for a year after the gallery show has concluded. Charlie LaCroix invites the community to inquire about holding your next speed dating event, family reunion or sockhop at LePop. For more info visit www.clxart.com or on Facebook and Twitter.
