There’s Something in the Woods — The return of Electric Forest Festival

forest

Electric Forest Festival returns on June 27th with its third and, arguably, most promising installment.

For those who have never tumbled through the rabbit hole, this four-day festival transforms the Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury, MI, into a glowing wonderland of color, costumes, and music. And a lot of other stuff that is better seen than explained.

Electric Forest Festival is somewhat of an evolution from a more traditional event – remember Rothbury Music Festival? That had its last run in 2009 and was replaced by this new beast in 2011, where the focus was shifted from previous headliners such as Bob Dylan and Dave Matthews Band to more electronic-leaning acts such as The String Cheese Incident. This unclassifiable, electronica-influenced jam band headlined the first Electric Forest and paved the way for the types of acts we’ll be seeing this year.

Passion Pit, Knife Party, GRiZ, Dispatch, Danny Brown, Pretty Lights, and Above and Beyond, among others, will join The String Cheese Incident this summer.

But it isn’t just the quality and variety of music that makes this festival distinct. Neon-glowing flowers, hammock hangouts, striking overhead art pieces, water attractions, and disc golf courses are just a sampling of what you can experience at this event. At the center of it all is the Sherwood Forest, the visually-dazzling and constantly buzzing musical heart of the festival.

Most new music festivals draw people in with a few attractive headliners, but people have been returning to Electric Forest Festival in masses each year because of the exhilarating, one-of-a-kind experience it offers. If you’re looking for a next-level musical excursion with a hypnotic and inspirational vibe, then look to the forest.

Electric Forest Festival takes place June 27-30 at the Double JJ Resort in Rothbury, MI. Tickets are available at electricforestfestival.com.
