Finally it is summertime in Ann Arbor, which means time for Sonic Lunch! Once again Bank of Ann Arbor’s free summer concert series is bringing incredible talent to the community. The series will begin with Martha Reeves & the Vandellas today at Liberty Plaza in downtown Ann Arbor.
Martha Reeves got her start in Detroit after Motown Record’s Mickey Stevenson discovered her when she won a talent competition at the Twenty Grand Club. (Mickey Stevenson also wrote “Devil with a Blue Dress On” for Mitch Ryder, who performed at Sonic Lunch last summer.) Martha & the Vandellas topped the charts in the 1960s and 70s with hits like “Nowhere to Run,” “My Baby Loves Me” and “Heat Wave.”
Come get your funk on tomorrow at Sonic Lunch with one of Motown’s original artist groups, Martha Reeves & the Vandellas. Music is provided by the Bank of Ann Arbor and lunch is provided by the Produce Station will start at noon in downtown Ann Arbor’s Liberty Plaza. Just bring your ears and your swinging hips because, like always, Sonic Lunch is free to the community.
