Three’s company as Bank of Ann Arbor’s Sonic Lunch welcomes its third performer of the summer to the downtown community this week. From Boston to Los Angeles, the folk-pop group Family of the Year brings a diverse sound to audiences all over the world. Since its formation four years ago in Southern California, FOTY has shared stages with the likes of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Mumford and Sons, The Antlers and Ben Folds. The band has gathered a significant fan base across Europe over the years with its two EPs titled “Where’s the Sun” (2009) and “Through the Trees” (2010). In 2012, Family of the Year released their debut full-length album, “Loma Vista,” which has caught the attention of the BBC, Rolling Stone and Spin — and iSPY, as our interview with them was our April 2013 print issue cover story. (Check out the story here.)
Tomorrow Family of the Year will perform at Sonic Lunch in downtown Ann Arbor’s Liberty Plaza at noon. If you thought a lunch break with live music was great, you’ll love a lunch break with live music and grilled cheese. Yep, this week’s restaurant partner Cheese Dream is serving gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, making tomorrow’s event truly a family affair.
