Houses // Baths // Magic Stick // June 8

Fresh off a set at SXSW’s Urban Outfitters Showcase and a tour with Cold War Kids, Houses are now on tour with Baths promoting the April release of “A Quiet Darkness” before ramping up for a busy festival season.

I was pretty much hooked after the first listen to “The Beauty Surrounds,” track two on the new album. Since then, “A Quiet Darkness” has been on constant repeat on my Spotify. For the sake of my friends on Facebook, I had to turn on the private session option because I’ve been listening to it so much. For those familiar with Houses, ”A Quiet Darkness” is a great follow up to 2010′s “All Night,” featuring the electronic hooks and elements you’d think of.

I love the likes of Toro y Moi, Gayngs and Tycho — and if you’re into that sort of thing, you’ll definitely get into this album with ease and be on the same repeat level as me. Tracks you’ll want to listen to are the above mentioned “The Beauty Surrounds” (video below) and, one of my personal favorites, “Carrion.”

This album has been one of my favorites so far in 2013. It’s dark, as eluded to in the title, but it’s also super mellow and each song brings a visual element to light when listening. It just sounds nice to look at.
