Arctic Monkeys

Review and Photos by Bruno Postigo

The Arctic Monkeys are a band that has evolved tremendously over the years. From their beginnings with “Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not” until their recent “Suck it and See” the band seems to be getting better. Alex Turner knows how to put on a show, and their live performance is top notch. The power of the Post-Punk they produce stands out in today’s music scene. They don’t rely on anything other than a guitar, a bass, tube amps, and some drums. However the crowd seemed a bit too uptight and conservative (go Grand Rapids!).  The crowd definitely forgot to bring their dancing shoes.

It’s interesting to note that the Arctic Monkeys rely on their older songs when playing live, as the tracks in “Suck it and See” aren’t as powerful compared to their previous releases. To close their set, they played a new track titled ”R U Mine” which is quite different since it’s raw and extremely powerful. It left the audience wanting more.
Turner wore: his signature Triumph shirt
Number of stage jumps caught on camera: 1
Number of fucks given by the drummer: 0 (the guy is a beast)
People dancing: less than 15
People that should have been dancing: 99999
