Be sure to carve some time out of your busy schedule to stop by Ypsilanti’s Riverside Arts Center in March—andexhibit that focuses on (you guessed it) memories. The pieces in this mixed media exhibit revolve around any personal or group memory that is significant to the featured artists.
“Artists often draw from their memories to do art, [but] artists are rarely invited to explain their pieces via written statements,” said gallery director, Dee Overly. She said that one of the things that makes this exhibit unique is that each piece of art will include a short summary about that piece written by the artist. Although Overly usually curates RAC exhibits, for this event Stacey Palazzolo will serve as exhibit curator.
Ranging from repressed or subconscious, long-term memories to happy, short-term ones, these artists have reached into their consciousness and created works of art that embody these influential parts of their lives and the strong emotions that these experiences created. Over 25 artists, including Ruth Marks, Michelle Birawer, Stacey Palazzolo and Jessica French, will be presenting their work.
Reception: Friday, March 4 (5-7pm)
Exhibit: Thursday, March 3 to Saturday, March 26
Riverside Arts Center is located at 76 North Huron Street, Ypsilanti 48197. For more information, call 734-480-2787.
